KNOWING – Horizon Europe project

The new EU project called “Framework for defining climate mitigation pathways based on understanding and integrated assessment of climate impacts, adaptation strategies and societal transformation” (abbreviated: KNOWING), funded by EU programme „Horizon Europe“, aims to develop a modeling framework to help understand and quantify the interactions between climate change impacts and risks, mitigation measures and adaptation strategies, assess the relationship between public and private adaptation and mitigation strategies, and identify ways to mitigate climate change with optimized combinations of interventions in different sectors, which will contribute to the establishment of sustainable tourism, climate protection and social transformation.

In particular, the KNOWING project is a research and development project that aims to identify climate influences and interrelations, as well as research and identify activities that are being carried out or planned to be carried out in the project partner countries in order to mitigate climate change. The identified activities will then be compared with the current strategic framework in the partner countries, in order to determine the extent to which these activities are adapted to the current state of climate change and to further improve them where necessary through framework for defining activities and climate mitigation pathways based on understanding and integrated assessment of climate impacts, which will ultimately be transfered to stakeholeders with the purpose of developing adaptation strategies and societal transformation.

The project will use various research and analysis methods, establish a knowledge base and develop methods for developing specific activities to mitigate climate change, starting with networking, knowledge transfer and capacity building and other activities to establish sustainable development. The results of the research will be presented to key stakeholders from the public and private sectors, in order to ensure the capacities and readiness of key stakeholders to implement activities for adaptation and mitigation of climate change.

The activities of Zagreb County Tourist Board in the project are promotion, networking, communication, dissemination, organization of workshops, knowledge transfer, capacity building and close cooperation with project partners in developing research and development results of the project, such as providing support in research and participation in development of joint guidelines for the development and implementation of activities aimed at adapting and mitigating climate change.

The project will last 48 months – the implementation began on June 1 2022 and will end on May 31 2026.

The total value of the project is 6,579,574.00 EUR.
