St. Vincent’s Day
Feast day of vine growers of continental Croatia, traditional “Vine Grower’s New Year”. Marks the start of a new production cycle in which the vines are pruned and then “christened” with old wine and decorated with sausages and wheat, corn, grapes and bread, in the hopes the vines will be fertile and bear much fruit. Local customs accompanied by singing and music, tour of wine huts and tasting local wines.
The custom is nurtured in the county cities: Dugo Selo, Jastrebarsko, Ivanić-Grad, Sveti Ivan Zelina, Velika Gorica, Vrbovec and Zaprešić.
