Famous people
Many distinguished people were either born or worked in Vrbovec and its environs. Among them were for example Count Petar Zrinski, biologist Ljudevit Farkaš-Vukotinović, French aristocrat Eugene de Piennes who donated 34 paintings of the French, Dutch, English and German painters to the Strossmayer Gallery in Zagreb, then historian Josip Butorac and many other. In the village of Negovac, not far from Vrbovec Marija Jurić Zagorka was born, a writer of popular novels and the first female journalist in southern Europe. Her bust is displayed in Vrbovec park.
